Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said that the present BJP government was intimidating people in the name of `encounters’ as those who were raising questions about working of police were being threatened and coerced to sign on dotted lines.
“The law and order situation in the state has gone from bad to worse. The BJP government has been patting its back saying that criminals were killed in encounters. The fact is that innocent people were being killed while actual criminals were being patronised by ruling party leaders,” Yadav said during the birth anniversary celebration of Maharishi Kashyap in Lucknow on Thursday.
Akhilesh also met the family members of Jitendra Yadav, who was shot at by a sub-inspector in Noida for getting an out-of-turn promotion. He said that his party had raised the issue in Legislative Council and wanted a CBI enquiry but the government did not allow a probe into it.
“There is lawlessness in the state. This has further gone up after the BJP lost the byelections in Phulpur and Gorakhpur. In democracy, election is the biggest weapon. As in the last election, people brought BJP to power, similarly, in the next election, people will teach BJP a lesson,” Yadav said.
The SP chief said that atrocities against Dalits and backwards have gone up in Yogi Raj. “Teaching in primary schools is suffering because of lack of teachers while ministers in the government are making money in the name of purchase of shoes and bags. The next election will prove a waterloo for the BJP as people will teach thm a lesson,” he said.
