19 city lakes to undergo makeover

Govt. sanctions ₹283 crore

Telangana State government has, on Friday, issued an order giving administrative sanction for an amount of ₹282.63 crore towards restoration and comprehensive development of 19 lakes and tanks in Hyderabad, Medchal and Ranga Reddy districts, as part of the Phase-IV of Mission Kakatiya scheme for the year 2018-19. This is a part of the government’s initiative to develop 40 major tanks and lakes in the limits of the HMDA. The lakes are distributed across 10 assembly constituencies including Serilingampally, Kukatpally, Rajendranagar, Uppal, Malkajgiri, Khairatabad, Chandrayangutta, L.B. Nagar, Amberpet, and Qutbullapur. They include Patel Cheruvu of Madinaguda, Ambeer Cheruvu of Kukatpally, Boin Cheruvu of Hasmathpet, Malka Cheruvu of Uppar Pally, Pedda Cheruvu of Neknampur, Malka Cheruvu of Raidurg, Charlapally Tank, Mukkidi Cheruvu of R.K.Puram, Nallagandla Cheruvu, Oora Cheruvu of Kapra, Anthangani Kunta of Shaikpet, Suram Cheruvu of Bandlaguda, Pedda Cheruvu of Mansoorabad, Maddela Cheruvu of Bairamalguda, Mohini Cheruvu of Amberpet, Durgam Cheruvu of Madhapur, Nalla Cheruvu of Uppa, and Fox Sagar of Jeedimetla. Making the chief engineer Krishna Basin responsible for implementation of the project, the guidelines included in the order said dismantling of the existing damaged structures and construction of new weir and sluice should be done only in rare cases after due examination of the possibilities of repairs at a level not lower than the superintendent engineer.

Besides, all guidelines issued hitherto, pertaining to tendering and other processes of Mission Kakatiya elsewhere, apply to the restoration of these tanks too, it said.
