ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Tech has given coach Paul Johnson a two-year contract extension through the 2022 season.

Johnson’s Yellow Jackets finished 5-6 in 2017 and failed to land a bowl bid for the second time in three seasons.

The 60-year-old Johnson is 75-54 at Georgia Tech, including a 46-34 record in Atlantic Coast Conference games. Known for his spread option offense, Johnson has led the Yellow Jackets to three ACC championship game appearances. NCAA sanctions forced Georgia Tech to vacate its 2009 ACC championship.

Georgia Tech has finished first or second in the ACC’s Coastal Division in six of Johnson’s 10 seasons.

Overall, Johnson is 182-93 in 21 seasons as a head coach, including stops at Georgia Southern, where he won two I-AA championships, and Navy.
