LONDON—Former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal is no longer in critical condition after being poisoned by a nerve agent last month, offering investigators an opportunity to shed light on crucial details about the attack.

Christine Blanshard, medical director at Salisbury District Hospital, said the 66-year-old was responding well to treatment and improving rapidly. His daughter, Yulia, is also getting stronger by the day and looks forward to being well enough to leave the hospital, Ms. Blanshard said.
