Judge recuses from plea on Pranab’s book

A Delhi High Court judge on Friday recused herself from hearing a plea that has sought deletion of some references to the 1992 demolition of Babri Masjid from former President Pranab Mukherjee’s book ‘Turbulent Years 1980-1996’.

Justice Pratibha M. Singh’s decision came hours after she issued a notice to Mr. Mukherjee during the hearing of the case in the first half of the day. She did not give any reason for recusing herself from the case, which is now going to be placed before another Bench of the High Court on April 9.

The petition filed by a group of self-proclaimed devotees of Hindu god Ram has claimed that certain portions of the book are “false and contemptuous” and are against their religious sentiments.
