CEDAR RAPIDS — Most of Iowa’s top-level girls’ basketball players will be in attendance for the IGCA/Larry Niemeyer Senior All-Star Games this weekend.

Most, but not all.

Iowa City High’s Ashley Joens is not among the 120 girls that will make up the two-day, six-game extravaganza at Johnson Hall on the campus of Kirkwood Community College. An Iowa State University signee who was named Miss Iowa Basketball 2018 last month, Joens has another basketball commitment.

Still, it’s another strong field.

The other seven seniors of the Gazette all-area team are slated to participate. Logan Cook of Iowa City West, Hailey Dolphin of Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Chloe Rice of Marion and Allie Wooldridge of Center Point-Urbana will play in Saturday’s 3A/4A/5A Select game at 2 p.m.

A University of Iowa signee, Cook led West to the 5A state championship. Rice is a Saint Louis University recruit and helped Marion capture the 4A title, which capped a 26-0 season.

Mikayla Nachazel and Rylee Menster — the duo that led Springville to three consecutive Class 1A state titles — will be playing in the 1A/2A Select game at 2 p.m. Sunday. West Branch’s Tatum Koenig will represent the 2A Select squad.

Action begins at noon both days. On Saturday, it starts with 3A White vs. 3A Gray, then it’s the 3A/4A/5A Select game at 2. and 4A/5A White vs. 4A/5A Gray at 4.

On Sunday, it’s 1A White vs. 1A Gray at noon, then the 1A/2A Select game at 2 and the 2A White/Gray game at 4.

Admission is $6 at the gate for everyone.

Two area coaches have been selected to participate. Mike Sconsa of 2A state champion Cascade will pilot the 2A Select team, and Elkader Central’s Mark Wiley is in charge of the 1A Gray team.
