MUMBAI:
Mumbai International Airport Limited (
MIAL) on Friday told the Bombay high court it has not allotted premises in the parking areas of the airport to any political party and has no intention to do so.
MIAL was responding to a public interest litigation by Abu Azmi, a businessman, who alleged that premises in parking area at both the domestic and international terminals are allotted to political parties in the garb of unions.
But senior advocate Janak Dwarkadas, representing MIAL, flatly denied it. `No political party is given premises,’’ he said, adding that the petitioner has a grievance with a union aligned with a party. The judges perused photographs submitted by the Azmi’s advocate Bhushan Mahadik of the parking areas. "We do not see that name of a political party. We heard you taking the name of a party. Photographs do not show,," remarked Justice Oka.
In their order, the judges noted MIAL’s statement that "it has not allotted any premises to any political party and does not intend to allot.’’ Noting that the petition does not pertain to its judicial assignment, the judges directed it to be placed before a bench having the assignment to hear it.
