YSR Congress MPs Vara Prasada Rao, Y.V. Subba Reddy, Midhun Reddy, Y.S. Avinash Reddy and Mekapati Mohan Reddy submitted their resignation papers to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Friday, last day of the Budget session of Parliament.

On March 27, party president Jagan Mohan Reddy said his MPs would resign on April 6 in protest against the Centre’s refusal to grant Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.

“In case Parliament is adjourned sine die, they would resign on the day of adjournment. We would request the TDP to join our struggle,” Mr. Reddy told the MPs at an emergency meeting at Muppala village.

Mr. Reddy had also said his party was ready to work with any party supporting the demand for the SCS and that all decisions beginning with the announcement of the resignations to tabling the no-confidence motion had been taken with a clear conscience.
