Thiruvananthapuram: Exactly 10 days after a former radio jockey was killed in his sound recording studio, the probe team recorded the first arrest in the case. The accused has been identified as B Sanu, 33, a private bus conductor based in Vallikeezhu in Kollam district. He is accused of aiding the assailants by being a part of the conspiracy and also providing his house for the assailants to stay for a few days during the planning and execution of the crime.
According to Attingal DSP P Anilkumar, Sanu had prior knowledge of the assailants’ plan to murder Rajesh. He devised an innovative plan to help the assailants, especially the one who flew down from Qatar, to stay off here without being detected. For this, he used the service of a WhatsApp group of which Sanu was an admin.
“The group, in which members shared songs, videos and even their own creative works, had members from all across the state as well as expatriates, including the Qatar-based assailant,” the DSP said.
Sanu created an event of get-together of the members at his residence at Vallikeezhu and invited everyone. This was in fact to arrange a safe stay for the prime suspect as checking into hotels or lodges would mean leaving evidence of his arrival here. Around 10 members of the group turned up for the gettogether party, which provided a perfect cover for the assailants. The assailants also used this time to visit Madavoor and collect information regarding Rajesh .
The DSP said that it was the probe into the rented car used by the assailants that took the investigators to Sanu. The police had earlier tracked down the owner of the car and taken him along with his business partners into custody. The assailants had availed the help of their mutual friends to rent the car. Police summoned and questioned them and learned that the car was rented by the people who stayed at Sanu’s residence. During interrogation, Sanu’s role in the crime was revealed, following which they recorded his arrest.
