Voting for the elections to the Bar Associations of
Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh is underway. This is the first time that the elections to the three bar associations are being conducted on the same day.
This is also the fist time in history of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana that principle of “one bar one vote” would be uniformly applicable to elect the office bearers of more than 172 bar associations throughout Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

Vijender Ahlawat said, "I am thankful to all the bar associations that they have adopted the principle of "one bar one vote. It would not have been possible without their cooperation. It was further stated that it would become a rule that elections for Bar associations in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh would take place on the first Friday of April and it should be followed as a rule.
As far as Chandigarh district bar association is concerned, around 2,500 voters will vote on Friday to elect the new bar association members of Chandigarh. The voting began at 9 am and would end at 4.30 pm. The counting will also be completed and results will be announced on the same day. Sunil Toni along with Preet Kawal Gill are contenders for the post of president. There are two candidates each for the posts of vice president, secretary and joint secretary and three for the post of treasurer.
The team of advocates conducting the elections, returning officer
Karam Singh, and assistant returning officers R S Sodhi and
Pratibha Bhandari said that they were working hard to ensure that the elections are conducted smoothly. The campaigning officially ended today at 5 pm and tables and chairs for candidates were set up by the evening.
