Former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal is no longer in critical condition after he was poisoned by a nerve agent last month, according to the U.K. hospital that is treating him.

Christine Blanshard, medical director at Salisbury District Hospital, said Skripal is responding well to treatment and improving rapidly. His daughter, Yulia, is also getting stronger by the day and looks forward to being well enough to leave the hospital, Blanshard said.

The poisoning of Skripal and his daughter last month in the English city of Salisbury has deepened tension between Moscow and the West, after the U.K. said it was highly likely Russia was responsible for the attack.
