Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Live Day One: Bermuda claim first gold of Games

The women's 48kg weightlifting final is underway, and Australia's Alyce Stephenson is in the field of 11.

An ecstatic Birtwhistle is in front of the camera now..

"One spot better would have been nice ... but it's great to have that weight off my shoulders and have a good result."

"This is the start of something special, I think. Both myself Matt and Luke we're all pretty young for this sport ... I'm sure you'll see more of us."

Australia claim their first medal of the Games - a silver in the men's triathlon!

Henri Schoeman wins by a mile with a time of 52:31 - about eight seconds ahead of Jacob Birtwhistle of Australia with Scotland's Marc Austin getting bronze, just holding off Australian Matt Hauser. Shockingly, neither Brownlee brother will finish on the podium.

Now Jacob Birtwhistle of Australia is making his move!

He finished the bike leg well behind that front six, but has stormed ahead of his countryman Hauser, and then quickly goes past Brownlee and Austin as well! He's up into second, but still a long way behind Schoeman.

Henri Schoeman of South Africa has sprung into the lead, and has opened up a good 20-30 metres on the pair of Austin and Jonathan Brownlee. Australia's Matthew Hauser is in fourth - Alistair Brownlee has dropped off completely and may have picked up an injury.

We're into the running leg of the triathlon and a half dozen have broken away from the rest of the field. Alistair Brownlee leads the other five by a few seconds, including his brother, Schoeman of South Africa, Reid of New Zealand, Austin of Scotland and Hauser of Australia.

After three rotations in the gymnastics, Australia are on top of the men's team event with Cyprus and New Zealand following behind. The likes of England, Wales and Canada are yet to get underway though.

Alaistair Brownlee has a narrow lead after the swimming portion of the men's triathlon. Once again, Flora Duffy claimed the women's gold, which was Bermuda's first gold in any event since the 1990 Games, and probably their biggest sporting moment since big Dwayne Leverock's catch in the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

Pearson's doctor has said it's not possible to determine when she will be back in action - as tendon injuries are extremely unpredictable.
