CPI(M) calls for sustained struggle against BJP govt.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has called for sustained struggles to counter the “communal and corporate friendly” policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP Government at the Centre.

CPI (M) Polit Bureau member B.V. Raghavulu expressed concern over the government pursuing its alleged “communal agenda” and alleged that it had been nominating members affiliated to the Rashtriya SwayamSevak Sangh to all the constitutional posts.

Mr. Raghavulu participated in a meeting convened here on Thursday to review the arrangements being made for the party’s forthcoming 22nd national congress slated to start on April 18.

He alleged that the BJP-led government had diluted the Acts aimed at the welfare of the working classes and it had failed in implementing the recommendations made by the M.S. Swaminathan Commission on ensuring remunerative prices to farmers.

On the Supreme Court’s recent observations on the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, he said the Apex Court’s remarks created a sense of insecurity among dalits and tribals. The Central Government should review the situation and ensure that the Act was included in the Schedule IX of the Constitution.

Referring to the talk of an alternative that was gaining momentum, Mr. Raghavulu said several parties were making public their intentions of forming an alternative, but it was important to examine their policies before taking any decision.
