The Dedee Shattuck Gallery will present Solastalgia, an exhibition curated by Charlotte Hamlin and Anna Kristina Goransson presenting the work of textile artists: Miyuki Akai Cook, Carrie Dickason, Nathalie Miebach, Kristin Pesola, Myra Serrins, Jenine Shereos, Jodi Stevens, Ann Wessmann, and Meredith Woolnough.

Solastalgia, a term that combines “solace” and “pain,” is defined as, “the pain experienced when there is recognition that the place where one resides and that one loves is under immediate assault . . . a form of homesickness one gets when one is still at ‘home’ ” (Albrecht, 2007). That juxtaposition — our attachment to the beauty and comfort of a known place with a sense of anticipated/observed/concurrent loss – generates appreciation and anxiety. Will the trill and thrum of the natural world be altered, silenced, replaced? What is transience, relative to our human observations?

Dedee Shattuck Gallery is located at 1 Partners Lane, Westport. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. The show runs April 4 to April 29. An opening artists' reception will be held on Saturday, April 7, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Artist receptions and exhibitions are free and open to the public.
