THANE: A witness in the
Lucky Compound building crash case was allegedly threatened by the two accused and one of their relatives, the special prosecutor informed the court. Shishir Hirey, prosecutor told the court that the witness
Rajkumar Yadav, who is an auto driver, had testified that he knew developers Jamil and Salim five or six years before the incident. Yadav is one of the prime witnesses in the case and was allegedly threatened by the accused duo against taking a stand against them. Subsequently, a compliant was registered at Daighar police station.
Yadav’s friend and his wife were among the 74 people who died in the building collapse in April 2013. More than 60 people were also injured.
Hirey informed that Yadav had told the court that they first constructed the Adarsh-1 building and in January 2013, the accused builder started laying columns for the Adarsh B building. They were razed by civic officials but construction continued. The families were shifted to the Adarsh B building. “Yadav’s relative
Ajay Thakur was residing with his family at Vatasnagar. Intially, he was brought in Adarsh-1 building but the builders shifted them to the under-construction Adarsh-B building. Ajay, his wife and two daughters died in the building collapse and his two daughters are in an orphanage now,” said Hirey.
On Wednesday, one
Manjiri Khambete also testified in the court. Her husband
Shriram Khambete had done the notary of the building documents for the accused.
