A Jodhpur court will pronounce its verdict today in the 1998 black buck poaching case against actor Salman Khan and others. Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri had reserved the judgment for today after final arguments in the case were completed in the trial court on the 28th of last month. All actors, including Salman, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam, will be present in the court for the pronouncement of the verdict.
The five actors along with two others are accused of killing two blackbucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur on the intervening night of 1-2 October 1998, during the shooting of Bollywood movie Hum Saath Saath Hain. Final arguments of the case were completed on 28 March, after which chief judicial magistrate had reserved the judgment.
Salman Khan is facing charges under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act and the other actors have been charged under the same section but read with IPC Section 149, which points to unlawful assembly. If they are convicted, the minimum sentence is one year and the maximum sentence is six years. The local police have made tight security arrangements around the court premises.
