Plays on the four days explore human emotions

Fine Arts Society, Chembur, is hosting a four-day Tamil Theatre festival — April 6-9, featuring Mumbai theatre groups. “This annual festival held around Tamil New year is a much anticipated event and very well attended,” informs Janaki Ramakrishnan, president of FAS managing committee. The inaugural play will be an in-house play, “Agni Pravesam” written and directed by Bombay Chanakya. The play revolves round media, both visual and social media, the perils of fake news.

Bombay Cultural Association, with five decades of theatre experience, will present “Kaanikkai” written by Jayameera and directed by V. Jagannath. It is the story of an upper middle class, loving family, which finds itself in the middle of a mysterious situation. How the family stays together, helped by other well-wishers is the theme.

Newly formed Clean Slate Creations will showcase “Vaidehi Kalyanam,” a family entertainer written by P. Ponnambalam, directed by Natarajan Balakrishnan. A tapestry of emotion and humour it features the antics of an absent minded father, a strict mother, a hearing impaired grandfather and a wily grandmother. This is the troupe’s third performance after shows in Thane and Matunga.

Streenergy and Synergy will present “Nilaithu Vazhum Aalayam,” written and directed by Bhanu Kumar. Concluding with a message on organ donation, the plot moves in a light hearted mode, climaxing in a poignant situation.

Working with an all-women troupe, the director uses only female characters in this play to convey a socially relevant theme.
