A magistrate's court in Gujarat's Banaskantha district today summoned Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor in a defamation suit filed by the district superintendent of police.
Judicial magistrate S V Modalia asked Thakor to remain present in the court in Deesa town on May 3.
SP Niraj Badgujar filed a criminal defamation case against Thakor last month, alleging that the Congress MLA made defamatory remarks against him while addressing locals in a village in the district.
Badgujar submitted a video clip of the speech, which purportedly shows Thakor, who represents Radhanpur seat in the adjoining Patan district, accusing the police officer of taking bribes from bootleggers.
