Rs 70 lakh distributed to Vontimitta victims in Andhra Pradesh

KADAPA: MINISTER for Marketing C Adinarayana Reddy handed over cheques for Rs 70 lakh towards compensation to the injured and families of four deceased, who were killed in the rain havoc at Sri Kodandarama temple in Vontimitta on March 30 during Sitarama Kalyanam. The minister handed over the cheques to the four bereaved families at a programme held in the Collectorate here on Wednesday. Later, he handed over cheques towards compensation to the injured undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that he had disbursed compensation worth `70 lakh to the bereaved families and the injured people.

He recalled that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced Rs 15 lakh compensation to each of the deceased and Rs 3 lakh to the seriously injured in the untoward incident. Four persons died and 39 were injured during the rain havoc. “Keeping in mind the unfortunate incident, steps are being taken to make foolproof arrangements for Sitarama Kalyanam at Vontimitta temple, which is a State festival,” the Minister said. Government Whip Meda Mallikarjuna Reddy, Joint Collector Shiva Reddy, Rajampet RDO Veerabhrahmam and several other officials were present on the occasion.
