DoE for holistic development of government school students

To provide “holistic” development of children studying in government schools, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has decided to involve private academies, individuals and NGOs through a scheme in which they will teach dance, music, theatre, fine arts and crafts to students.

Under the scheme, private academies, individuals or NGOs will have to provide free of cost training to students and can also impart training to private students on chargeable basis but the ratio should be maintained at 50:50. They will in turn be allowed to use the premises of the school to impart the training. “Under this scheme, only minimum basic infrastructure available in schools will be provided to the selected private players and on the condition that there will not be any defacement, damage or alteration in the property of the school. Otherwise they will have to pay recoveries for the losses,” said the DoE.

“Each child has the potential to excel in one or the other field. Some of the children, apart from academics, may do very well in other spheres of life. As educators, it is our duty to locate that latent capacity and provide it with congenial atmosphere and abundance of opportunities to grow to its fullest strength,” said the DoE while announcing the scheme.

Explore abilities

It added that the objective of the scheme to provide all-round growth that can be achieved only if the child is given plenty of exposure so that he/she can explore and realise his/her innate inclination and abilities.

“Imparting of proper training in art and culture programme would give a child the right perspective to see the world around and allow them to participate in various national and international art and cultural exchange programmes and also endow them with emotional equilibrium,” said the DoE.
