‘Overwatch’ Archives Event: Blackwatch Moira Skin Revealed
Blizzard just revealed Moira’s next skin coming in the Overwatch Archives event. With the event releasing in just under a week, teasers and reveals are coming out almost daily. The PlayOverwatch Twitter account showed off Blackwatch Moira, one of more than 100 cosmetics coming in event-exclusive Archive loot boxes. Reaper will also be getting a new skin, Soldier 24, according to Jeff Kaplan on yesterday’s “Overwatch League” broadcast.
On Wednesday, we got to read the “Retribution” comic which showed off the Blackwatch team in full special-ops garb. Cyborg Genji, Reaper without his mask, black-cape McCree and Moira in a beret will all be working together to stop Talon agents from getting away without a fight. Before Moira was the queen of evil, she a covert ops agent in Overwatch’s secret Blackwatch organization. She’s dressed for battle rather than a Halloween costume, complete with her damage and healing sprays.
If you look closely at Blackwatch Moira, it bears a solid resemblance to Mercy’s Valkyrie exosuit. The technology of Overwatch’s main healer must have been adapted by Moira and transformed into something else. Considering how closely Mercy guards her technology, I’d bet the good-willed scientist had no idea that Moira was even a part of Overwatch.
Blackwatch Moira also lacks her giant eye patch from her base skin. We know that Moira has no ethical dilemma with experimenting on herself—it’s why she has robot hands—so it could have also been possible for her to take her own eye. I’ve never been that committed to my work, but I also don’t have the stomach to work for a special operatives agency
The Venice Incident, where Blackwatch stepped into the light for the first time, caused the inevitable downfall of Overwatch. Mercy must have been really hurt by this reveal and it could have been one of the reasons why she eventually left the team.
