A drop-top with a stick and some kick

A new M4 convertible with M Performance bits and a six-speed manual transmission? I’m OK with it—especially since summer is not so far off. And even if it wasn’t, I’d still drive this thing all year round.

Here are three fast facts about the 2018 BMW M4 Convertible that we took for a quick spin around the Coachella Valley in Southern California recently.

  1. The Tourmaline Violet Metallic is a $5,200 paint option and when it’s combined with an Amaro Brown Merino Leather interior—another $2,550 option—it looks incredible. It’s also available in more sedate flavors too, but why even go there?

2. Under the hood, the 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine cranks out 425 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. It is offered with a six-speed manual transmission—how cool is that? A seven-speed automatic transmission is also available if you must. Plus, the convertible can sprint from 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds.

3. The 2018 model starts at $68,695 and there are plenty of options to add if you like to check all the boxes. Is it worth it? Take one for a spin and you’ll know.
