As a part of a survey of defence lands all over the country, the Director General of Defence Estate under the Ministry of Defence has asked the Goa government to give necessary instructions to all the concerned persons to make the revenue officials available during the second phase of survey of defence lands, which will involve the survey of such land in Goa.
In a letter to Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma, Director General of Defence Estate Jojneswar Sharma has stated that the Ministry of Defence has entrusted a job of physical survey of all defence lands in the country to his organisation, which was started in 2011.
“At that time, a request was made to all the state governments to depute concerned revenue officials during the course of the survey so that
the final survey report becomes authentic. The project was to be completed within a period of three years which, of course, could not be done due to various reasons. But presently about 99 per cent of defence land has been physically surveyed and the survey report prepared. It has, however, been observed that the revenue officials could not associate with the survey in all locations, still the survey continued and the reports were prepared thereof,” the letter states.
It further said that in quite a few locations, few discrepancies have been noticed during the survey which need to be resolved and wherever the revenue officials could not associate with the survey, there has to be a re-verification along with survey maps prepared during the exercise.
First priority of the organisation is to resolve the discrepancies and at the same time, have the survey reports authenticated, the letter states.
The Director General of Defence Estate also said that all defence estate officers have been asked to undertake the job on priority. The organisation is also in the process of geo-referencing all the boundaries of defence land in association with the Indian Space Research Organisation.
