39 children rehabilitated through ‘Sanathabalyam’

TIRUVANANTHAPURAM : As many as 39 children got a new home on Wednesday. The children walked home with their foster parents as part of the ‘Sanathabalyam’ programme of the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare. The programme envisages providing foster care for children who cannot be taken care of by their parents by uniting them with new families, thereby giving them a home. A family meet and the re-homing of the children was held at the Government Children’s Home, Poojappura.

The programme held under the aegis of the Thiruvananthapuram unit of the organisation was inaugurated jointly by the Social Justice Department special secretary Biju Prabhakar, singer Kavalam Sreekumar, scriptwriter P V Shajikumar and actor Priyanka Nair. Biju Prabhakar also distributed certificates to 90 child care centres. Women and Child Development director Sheeba George presided over the function.

At the family get together, the parents who decided to provide foster care to the children shared their experience. Child Welfare committee members Dr V Suja, A Sheela and Ajit Venniyoor helped alleviate the doubts and replied to the questions. A photo exhibition of the paintings created by the children of the home was also held.

Summer camp
The Kerala State Council for Child Welfare is organising a one-of-a-kind summer camp titled ‘Kilikkootam’ from Thursday. Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran will inaugurate the camp at 10:30 am. A total of 250 children are expected to participate. The camp will be on until May 22nd
