Protests intensify against delay in setting up of CMB

Over 150 CPI cadre led by district Secretary V.S. Sundaram attempt to enter the Coimbatore Railway Junction to stage a rail roko.

Members of the Communist Party of India, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, lawyers and a few others staged protests across the city demanding immediate constitution of the Cauvery Management Board.

More than 150 CPI cadre led by district Secretary V.S. Sundaram attempted to enter the Coimbatore Railway Junction to stage a rail roko.

The DMK cadre led by the party’s Coimbatore Urban South unit in-charge and MLA N. Karthik protested in front the BSNL office on Kamarajar Road, Singanallur. The partymen also staged a protest on Avinashi Road and at Selvapuram, near the Shivalaya Theatre.

Lawyers also staged a protest near the Coimbatore Integrated Court complex. During their protest, a name board of nationalised bank was damaged, the Police said. The Tamil Manila Congress cadre conducted a signature campaign in the city demanding constitution of the Board.

Members of Tamil Maanila Congress commenced a two-day signature campaign in Tirupur on Wednesday to mobile public support for the speedy constitution of CMB. According to TMC sources, the petition with the signatures collected on it would be sent to Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

Nearly 100 CPI men were arrested after they sat on the railway track in front of a goods train.
