Amir Khan fight: Footage shows Khan back in ring – but boxing fans have torn him to PIECES

AMIR KHAN will return to the ring for the first time since a brutal knockout loss to Canelo Alvarez later this month, taking on Phil Lo Greco in Liverpool.

The Bolton man was last seen on screen in the latest series of I’m A Celeb, endearing himself to the British public with a series of memorable moments during a hilarious three-week stint in the jungle.

Khan pocketed a reported £300,000 for participating in the popular reality TV show – but he will be hoping for more lucrative paydays back in the world of boxing as he takes on Canadian Lo Greco in the first of his recently-signed three-fight contract with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

Earlier this week, Hearn teased fans with a clip of Khan training in preparation for the welterweight showdown, which will take place on April 21 at Liverpool’s 11,000 capacity Echo Arena.

The 31-year-old can be seen going through a series of cardio exercises before hitting the pads and shadowboxing in an empty gym.

Thousands have seen the footage since it was posted on Twitter – but the reaction from some fans has been brutal.

“Soz Eddie, won’t be paying to watch Amir ever again!” read one comment.

Another wrote: “The lad comes across as a decent bloke but he’s a terrible boxer, sadly he can’t hack it on fight night.

“Still, it all keeps the wonga rolling in.”

The 31-year-old has not fought for almost two years since losing to Canelo Alvarez

“Nobody cares about Amir Khan, he's all washed up and looking for easy paycheques now,” added a third.

It will be almost two years out of the ring when Khan makes his walk to the squared circle on April 21, having been knocked out cold by a savage right hand from Mexican middleweight Canelo in May 2016.

Providing he emerges from the tune-up fight against 28-3 Lo Greco, a lucrative domestic clash with Kell Brook could be back on the cards for later in the year.

Brook halted his run of back-to-back defeats with a demolition job of Sergei Rabchenko inside two rounds last month, calling out Khan in the ring afterwards.

“Forget about the weight, I want Khan, I think it would be harder to get him signed than a world title fight,” Brook said.
