One killed by lightning

One person died as lightning struck a cowshed he was in at village Sarnachak under Tehsil Barkot in  Uttarkashi district as light to moderate rainfall was reported from the higher mountainous regions while light showers were reported from isolated places in  the plain districts over the past 24 hours.    Notably, the Met officials had earlier forecast rain/thunderstorm at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts  for some  days since April 3.  It is learnt that two bovines were killed too in the lightning incident reported from the village in Uttarkashi district. 

As per the report sent by the Met department, by 8.30 am on Wednesday, 30 mm rainfall each was reported in Munsiyari and Ukhimath; 20 mm rainfall in Barkot while 10 mm rainfall each in Jakholi, Joshimath, Pithoragarh, Bhatwari, and Kapkot.

Meanwhile, the climate cooled down a bit in Dehradun  after it drizzled around noon. While the maximum temperature settled at 33.4 degree Celsius the minimum hovered at 18.7 degree Celsius in the city on the day. In Uttarakhand, the highest maximum temperature 37.4°C was recorded at Jaspur while lowest minimum temperature 8.3°C was recorded at Munsiyari.

The weather forecast for Dehradun on Thursday is mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 34 degree Celsius and 19 degree Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Thursday. Uttarakhand meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said on Wednesday that due to western disturbances, rain/snowfall is expected to occur at higher places in the next few days.

As per the chart sent by the weather department, in Pantnagar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 35.4 degree Celsius and 17.4 degree Celsius, respectively. In Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 22.4 degree Celsius and 10.5 degree Celsius. In New Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 22.0 degree Celsius and 9.8 degree Celsius respectively.

Singh said that rain/thunderstorm might lash isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on  four days  till April 8 from Thursday the climate would be mostly dry in the rest of the state.
