07.43 IST: This is Sanjita Chanu's second gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. She won gold at Glasgow in 2014 as well.

07.22 IST: THAT'S IT! Chanu bags gold. India's second one.

07.15 IST: Chanu fails in her final attempt of 112kg. Dika needs a 113kg lift to topple Chanu and win gold.

MY OH MY! Gold almost likely for Chanu now. She nails a 108kg lift now. She is on 192kg. Dika needs 111kg to beat her now. But it is unlikely.

07.13 IST: Canada's Rachel Leblanc-Bazinet is assured of a bronze now. She finished with 181kg.

07.11 IST: But, Chanu comes and sweeps her aside with a 104kg lift now.

Rachel attempted 83 in her final try but fails. Chanu will finish on top anyway now. She is going for 84kg -- a CWG record.

But Canada's Rachel lifts 81 in her second attempt to be on level with Sanjita. Toua attempted 82 but fails. Toua's lift remains on 80kg.

Breif Preview and events ahead on Day 2:

Mirabai Chanu and P Gururaja brought cheers to the whole nation as they claimed gold and silver medals respectively to give India a good start in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) at Gold Coast, Australia.

Chanu stood at the top of the podium as the Indian national anthem played for the first time in this year's CWG while a perseverant Gururaja settled for a silver medal.

Chanu smashed the CWG record with every lift and even broke her personal record and remained in a league of her own. She received a thunderous applause from the Australian fans, who queued up to take her autograph after the medal ceremony. Chanu managed to lift 196kg (86kg+110kg) in a remarkable effort.

Earlier, Gururaja survived a few anxious moments after two failed attempts in clean and jerk to claim a silver medal.

The 25-year-old son of a truck driver equalled his personal best of 249kg (111kg+138kg) to finish second in the event and ensure that India woke up to the news of a medal on the very first day of competitions.
