Order to demolish actor’s compound wall stayed

The Kerala High Court on Thursday stayed an order of the Kochi Corporation directing actor Jayasurya to demolish the compound wall of his house constructed by the side of the Chilavannur backwaters and also a boat jetty on the backwaters. The boat jetty was demolished by the Kochi Corporation on Wednesday.

The court passed the stay order on a writ petition filed by the actor challenging the order of the corporation.

He said he had not encroached on the backwaters and wild allegations of encroachments had been levelled against him without conducting any survey.

He submitted that at the time of execution of sale deeds, there was a proper granite foundation on all the sides of the property and on the side adjoining the Chilavannur lake. He had only erected wicket fencing to safeguard children from falling into the lake.
