Conversion of rural clinics the main demand

Students of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University laid siege to the main gate on Wednesday and prevented the faculty members and non-teaching staff from entering the campus.

Negligence

On the 35th day of their ongoing agitation demanding conversion of rural veterinary clinics into livestock hospitals, the students closed down the gates.

They alleged negligence on the part of the varsity and the government, which they accused of having turned a deaf ear to their plea for an upgrade, which would be a boon to cattle rearers in the rural areas.

Meeting

As the issue was pending with the Finance Department for concurrent approval, the student leaders declined to open the gates until the Minister came on telephone line.

Finally, the varsity authorities agreed to arrange a meeting with the Finance Department, following which the student leaders relented.

Police summoned

As tempers ran high, personnel from the Sri Venkateswara University campus police station were brought to bring the situation under control.
