CHENNAI: The first bench of the Madras High Court has rejected a plea to take suo-motu proceedings against Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, his deputy O Panneerselvam and other ministers for observing a one-day fast on Tuesday demanding formation of the Cauvery Management Board. When Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice A Selvam commenced their proceedings on Tuesday morning, Devarajan, an advocate clerk, alleged that the hunger strike being staged by the CM and the DCM was against the provisions of the Constitution.

He wanted the court to take suo-motu proceedings against them and make a recommendation to the Union government to dismiss the Tamil Nadu government, since the Governor is not in the city.
Refusing to concede his request, the bench said it could consider taking up the issue only if a proper petition was filed. However, Devarajan replied that he couldnot afford to pay the fee of `1,000 for filing a PIL petition.

Pharmaceutical firm gets injunction on stay order
Chennai:
The Madras High court has stayed the operation of an order dated March 28 last of the Director of Drugs Control & Licensing Authority directing a firm, engaged in the manufacture of pharmaceutical formulations and exporting the same to foreign countries, to stop production. Justice T Raja granted the injunction while passing interim orders on a writ petition from Intermed, a partnership firm in GK Industrial Estate at Porur, on Tuesday. According to advocate R Jayaprakash, the firm was engaged in pharmaceutical business from 1994. Following a dispute between the firm and the property owner over lease, the matter went to the Small Causes court. While so, the Director of Drugs Control issued the order directing the petitioner firm to stop production.
