Maharashtra wins 9 medals in Wushu Natl’s

Pune: Maharashtra Wushu team returned from Jammu and Kashmir with exemplary performance winning 3 silver and 6 bronze medals in the National Sub-Junior Wushu Championship, which concluded on March 31 in
Jammu.

Pune’s wushu exponents Omkar Modak, Siddhi Shinde, Swayam Katake, Khushi Telekar and Swaraj Kokate were those who won medals in the championship conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Wushu Association.

Modak won silver medal in tai-chi-jan and bronze in taijiquan, Siddhi won two silver medals in tai-chi-jan and taijiquan disciplines.

Swayam Katake bronze came in gunshu, while Khushi’s bronze medals came in Daushu and gunshu.

Maharashtra won another bronze in group event from a team comprising Swaraj, Omkar, Siddhi, Swayam and Khushi; and Nagpur’s Ashwin Kumar won bronze in 32-kg class in fight category.

On return from Jammu the team was given a rousing welcome and felicitated for their exemplary performance. The president of All Maharashtra Wushu Association SS Zhende, General Secretary Sopan Katake and coach Sandeep Shelar were present on the occasion.
While welcoming the Maharashtra team, Katake informed that over 850 martial art exponents from 27 states took part in the championship and it was Maharashtra best performance so far.
