Janamaithri, SPC schemes get much of Police Plan fund

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state police have successfully utilised most of the annual plan fund share from Central and state governments in the last financial year. The fund has been utilised for implementing various modernisation and welfare schemes introduced in the Police Department during 2017-18. In a statement, the police said they had utilised 99.49 percent of allotted fund of `32.64 crores by the Central Government, while they had spent 97.38 percent of allotted fund of `53 crore by the state government last fiscal. Of the various schemes initiated by the police, the funds were mostly utilised in Janamaitri and Student Police Cadet schemes with the total amount of `3.70 crores and `9 crores respectively.     

According to the police, various schemes such as Pink patrol, self-defence training programme, Nirbhaya and other woman safety schemes were implemented using these funds. Apart from the woman safety schemes, several programmes for enhancing the investigation and for modernising the police stations were implemented. 

State Police Chief Loknath Behera said in a statement that the successful implementation of various projects helped improve the efficiency of the police. “We had laid stress on modernisation which is useful for society. In fact, we have been implementing various projects for enhancing the policing system. So we hope that we would continue to achieve similar results in the next fiscal year,” the DGP said.
