British Airways infuriated passengers by allegedly telling them that their lost baggage was a ‘police matter’.
The air carrier was also accused of refusing to assist passengers with their luggage issues as reported by a noted consumer journalism website.
In a certain incident, British Airways had refused to pay-out for passenger’s loss of luggage and instead waited till the police declined to be involved to settle the claim. Lost luggage Alexandra Epee-Bounya from Boston in Massachusetts mentioned that her bag was lost following a flight from London.
She then went on to claim that the representative of BA told her that the bag had been stolen between the airplane and the carousel and that she should file a police report.
She then added that the state policeman said that British Airways was still responsible.
She asserted that the airline disagreed and told her to report this theft to the police and claim via her travel insurance. Another passenger from Illinois said that British Airways had lost his bag on a flight from India. British Airways rejected his claim mentioning that the bag might have been stolen and he needed to file a police report.
British Airways however declined that it had altered its policy for lost bags and said that it continued to pay out under the agreed international rules on lost baggage though passengers who wished to claim over the maximum liability could do through their insurance.
