Jharsuguda: A 10-member team, comprising officials from directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) and airports authority of India (AAI), on Tuesday visited the Jharsuguda airport here to grant licence to operate aircraft under regional connectivity scheme (RCS)- Udan (Ude desh ka aam naagrik).
The team, led by DGCA assistant director D K Mondal, reviewed the infrastructure at the airport for operating the RCS.

Jharsuguda airport director Loknath Padhi said, "The officials inspected the runway, apron, taxiway and buildings. We have met all the relevant norms under the DGCA and after the nod from the DGCA, Jharsuguda airport will get a licence to operate."

At present, work is in progress for flying of A320 type aircraft. "We are currently applying licence for operating 18-seater aircraft under the RCS. After one month when the works will be completed, we will again apply licence for operating regular A320 type aircraft," Padhi added.

In the first phase, the airport has been developed over 909 acres and 200 more acres will be added to it in the next phase, said an official.

"I am very happy that very soon Jharsuguda airport will get licence to fly aircraft. Once it is operationalised, the business community will be very benefited. It will cut time and distance to destinations like Mumbai and Delhi," said Anirudh Badhan, a businessman.
