Unbeknown to me, the Wizards have developed a huge following in Washington state since the SuperSonics relocated to Oklahoma City after the 2007-08 season. Maybe it’s the shared experience of losing out on Kevin Durant, or respect for the Bullets clinching the franchise’s only championship in Game 7 of the 1978 NBA Finals at the Seattle Center Coliseum. Whatever the reasons, those other Washingtonians in the Pacific Northwest apparently love their Wizards.

That, or a sports apparel company screwed up again. Behold the Wizards “Branded Banner State T-Shirt” from Fanatics, which depicts the Wizards’ familiar Washington Monument ball logo inside an American flag-filled outline of the state of Washington:

Your extreme commitment to the Washington Wizards is put on display every time they take the court. Your wardrobe will effortlessly match your team spirit when you add this Banner State tee from Fanatics Branded to your collection. The vibrant graphics on this T-shirt are guaranteed to let everyone know your loyalty belongs to the Washington Wizards.

The vibrant graphics on this T-shirt are also guaranteed to have your friends doing double-takes at the bar. Geography is hard, and this isn’t the first time a sports merchandise company has mistaken Washington state for Washington, D.C. Last summer, the Redskins’ “State Pride” license plate available in the NFL Shop featured the Redskins logo inside an outline of The Evergreen State. That goof was arguably more egregious, considering Washington state has its own NFL team, one that has owned the Redskins in the playoffs in recent years.

The Redskins license plate was eventually removed from NFL Shop, so you’d better act fast if you want the Wizards error T-shirt. For $27.99, it would make a great gift for the geography teacher in your life, or a Wizards fan in Walla Walla.
