BJP president will seek to boost morale in poll run-up

Mumbai: The BJP’s Assembly election campaign will be kick-started by party president Amit Shah at a rally to be held at the BKC grounds on April 6. State BJP leaders said Mr. Shah is likely to address anti-incumbency concerns as the ruling party looks to retain power in elections scheduled for 2019, while highlighting the party’s achievements in the State’s urban centres.

Sources said the rally on the BJP’s foundation day is expected to galvanise workers, many of whom are demoralised by the Opposition’s allegations against the State government.

The party has also been under constant attack by coalition partner Shiv Sena. Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar said Mr. Shah will also define the party’s ideological stand on several important issues.

Party MLA Yogesh Sagar added, “We’re glad he has taken taken time out from the Karnataka elections for our workers. This will undoubtedly mobilise them and at the same time, prepare us for the elections in Maharashtra.”

Mr. Shah has been raising issues related to alleged corruption by the Congress government in Karnataka, while also touching upon the shortfall in meeting development parameters and Central aid during the campaign.
