Ambedkar Mahasabha to confer UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath with 'Dalit Mitra' award

LUCKNOW: Amid the raging protest over the Supreme Court's order on dilution of SC/ST act, the Ambedkar Mahasabha has decided to confer UP chief minister Adityanath Yogi with the award of 'Dalit Mitra' on Ambedkar Jayanti due on April 14.

Mahasabha's president Lalji Prasad Nirmal told TOI that the decision to felicitate the UP CM has been taken in view of the state government's move to add 'Ramji' in the name of BR Ambedkar and renaming it as Bhimrao Ramji Aambedkar besides making installation of Ambedkar's photograph mandatory in public offices.

"Babasaheb ka naam theek karna unke naam pe memorials banane se bada kaam hai... (Correcting Ambedkar's name is better than constructing memorials in his name)," Nirmal said, in an apparent swipe at BSP chief Mayawati during whose regime between 2007-12, memorials and parks, worth several crores, were constructed in Lucknow and Noida.
