Police needs change in their conduct to improve its image : OP Singh

Director General of Police, OP Singh on Tuesday admitted that the police needed change in their conduct to improve its image. He also gave away President’s Medal for outstanding and distinguished services to 67 police official / peronnel.

Speaking at the Annual Police Week at Reserve Police Lines in Lucknow on Tuesday, Singh said that the police image suffered a setback due to unwanted or inhumane acts by some cops but then there were several others who brought laurels to the department. 

The DGP stressed that the image of the men in Khaki needed to be improved with cordial behaviour with visitors to police stations and outposts and a sensitive approach for which soft skills training for cops has been planned.

Singh said that UP Police was the world’s largest force and they have several outstanding achievements on law and order front in the last one year. He revealed that 45 criminals were killed in encounters besides 95 persons involved in anti-national activities were arrested by sleuths of Anti-Terrorists Squad (ATS). 

Earlier the DGP took the salute of a parade to kickstart the function and State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF) personnel participated in the parade for the first time. Meanwhile, replying to media persons, Singh said that the cops responded quickly during the Bandh on Monday and controlled the situation. He said that they were still closely monitoring activities in Meerut and Agra zones so that no further untoward incident took place. 

On a policeman showing AK-47 assaulted rifle to terrorise a common man in Agra, the DGP said that the matter was not in his know and stern action would be taken if it was found to be true. He also claimed that plans were afoot to set-up a separate fund for promotion of sports in UP POlice and a decision in this regard will be taken soon.
