Judges’ chatter

As clichéd as it might sound, the ideas that truly stand out are those that think out of the box.

I liked their logic (and charts to back it up). On a presentation deck by a HUL team.

Can I get the phone numbers of these teams? I want to hire them.

I am sure his CCO made him rehearse those lines.

Why didn’t I think of that idea?

Future Lions, pay attention

Read the brief. Read the brief. Read the brief.

Stick to the brief, but don’t get stuck on it.

Don’t meander, get to the idea/solution quickly.

Make the presentation lively and interactive.

Always present as a team.

Confidence and clarity of thought trump the Queen’s English.

Be patient and listen, please. The judges are not your enemies. A mediocre idea is a forgivable offense against creativity, a defensive participant who can’t take criticism is not.

Be a rebel with a cause. Campaigns based on social issues are not a confirmed ticket to Cannes Lions. It helps if you have a creative brand-led idea to hold it all together.

Take all the creative liberties you want. The client isn’t watching.
