Mumbai: A 24-year-old helper with a light and decoration company was electrocuted while installing lights outside Siddhivinayak Temple in Dadar in the early hours of Tuesday. The Dadar police have booked his employer and are conducting inquiries.

The incident occurred at 2:30 a.m. when the temple was being decorated for Angaraki Chaturdashi. “The temple trust had given the contract to a Sewri-based contractor named Manish Lights and Decorations. Nasim Ali, an employee, was installing lights when he received an electric shock. He was taken to KEM Hospital in Parel, where he was declared dead before admission,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Deshmukh, Dadar division, said.

Nasim’s cousin brother Karamat Ali, who also works for the company, informed his uncle Sadar Ali (42). “Mr. Sadar Ali had put Nasim in touch with Karamat around four months ago, as Nasim was looking for a job. He was hired as a helper, but was also being made to work with electrical equipment without any prior experience or proper training. He was also not provided with protective gears like rubber gloves,” an officer with the Dadar police said.

Based on Mr. Sadar Ali’s complaint, the police booked Chandrakant Gupta, the owner of the company, for causing death due to negligence under the IPC.
