Procession in Tripura to celebrate Bangladesh transforming from LDC to developing nation

A colourful was taken out here on Wednesday to celebrate a UN body categorising as a developing nation from a least developed country (LDC).

Intellectuals, academics, social activists, artists, singers, schoolstudents were among hundreds of people from all walks of life who participated, apart from Bangladeshi officials and their family members.

The named "Ananda Sobhajatra" was organised by the Assistant High Commission of here.

"In recognition of as a developing nation by the Committee for Development Policy, the event is held in around 80 Bangladeshi diplomatic missions across the world," Bangladesh's said.

Renowned Indian academician Arunoday Saha, noted dramatists and players and Sisir Deb, were among the participants.

Hossain said was dubbed a developing country since it had fulfilled three stipulated criteria -- per capita income, human resource development and economic upliftment -- of UNCDP rather than a least developed country.

A panel discussion was held at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here to highlight Bangladesh's success in various human and economic indexes.
