In order to achieve its renewable power obligations and to provide uninterrupted and cheap power supply to the residents, BSES Rajdjani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) have signed 'Power Sale Agreements' (PSA) with SECI (Solar Energy Corporation of India) to procure 200 MW (BRPL 150 MW, BYPL 50 MW) of wind power.
With the initiative, the discoms will be able to provide electricity at a very competitive tariff of Rs 2.52 per unit. Also, it can manage the pick demand in summer nights easily.
A senior BSES official said that the power is expected be available to BSES discoms in November next year and for a period of 25 years, it will be available at a very competitive tariff of Rs 2.52 per unit.
“BSES discoms are committed for the promotion of renewable power in Delhi while ensuring that there is minimal burden on the consumers. We have been procuring energy from all available renewable energy sources at economical rates. This allocation of wind power is a testimonial to these efforts” he added.
This is not only one of the lowest tariffs for wind power but is also priced substantially lower than the average cost of long-term (power purchase agreement) PPAs, which are above Rs 4.5 per unit. Moreover, this agreement will help BSES discoms to fulfill their 'Renewable Purchase obligations' (RPO).
He further said Delhi experiences peak power demand twice in a 24-hour period and this wind power being sourced from the coastal area of Gujarat is expected to support the night peak demand.BRPL and BYPL are premer power distribution companies and Joint Ventures between Reliance Infrastructure Limited and GoNCT.
