5 players will fly the SA flag at Augusta

Cape Town - The 82nd Masters gets under way at Augusta National this week and there will be FIVE South Africans in the 87-player field.

Trevor Immelman and Charl Schwartzel have both laid their hands on the green jacket - in 2008 and 2011, respectively.

Other South Africans in the field include 2010 Open Championship Louis Oosthuizen, world No 33 Branden Grace and, making his Masters debut, Dylan Frittelli.

How they are all shaping up heading into the tournament:

Trevor Immelman

Age - 38

Ranking - 1 242nd

Best Masters - Winner (2008)

Immelman - who pipped Tiger Woods by three strokes in 2008 - gets an automatic entry in the Masters field for the rest of his career.

He has struggled with his game since donning the green jacket with his last win coming from the Web.com's Hotel Fitness Championship in 2013.

The South African has missed the cut four consecutive years at Augusta National. However, golf is a funny game and this year could be different...

Immelman tees off alongside England's Ian Poulter and American Patrick Cantlay in Rounds 1 and 2.

Charl Schwartzel

Age - 33

Ranking - 58th

Best Masters - Winner (2011)

In 2011, Schwartzel picked up a two-stroke victory over Australian duo Jason Day and Adam Scott. He became the third and the most recent South African to wear the green jacket.

Last year, Schwartzel surged up the leaderboard to finish third behind eventual champion Sergio Garcia and runner-up Justin Rose after the two Ryder Cup team-mates battled in a playoff.

Leading up to the Masters, Schwartzel has struggled with form with his best finish this year a tie for 15th in the SA Open in January.

He will tee off in Rounds 1 and 2 alongside American Webb Simpson and Chinese amateur Lin Yuxin.

Louis Oosthuizen

Age - 35

Ranking - 31st

Best Masters - 2nd (2012)

Heading into Augusta National, Oosthuizen comes off a top 10 finish at last month's WGC-Match Play tournament in Austin.

He came close to securing an elusive green jacket in 2012 when he lost to Bubba Watson in a nail-biting playoff.

Oosthuizen will be looking to secure his first Major win since his 2010 Open Championship triumph at St. Andrews.

He will tee off in Rounds 1 and 2 alongside reigning Open champion Jordan Spieth and Swede Alex Noren.

Branden Grace

Age - 29

Ranking - 33rd

Best Masters - T18 (2013)

Grace has been tipped as the next South African Major winner.

After winning last year's Nedbank Golf Challenge, Grace started off 2018 with a second-place finish at the SA Open in early January.

The expectant father also secured a top 10 finish at last month's Valspar Championship.

Grace will tee off in Rounds 1 and 2 alongside former Masters winner Zach Johnson and Germany's Martin Kaymer.

Dylan Frittelli

Age - 27

Ranking - 50th

Best Masters - Debut

Young prospect Frittelli will make his debut at Augusta this week after securing a last-minute spot in the field.

Frittelli rose to prominence after a whirlwind 2017 season, which saw him secure two European Tour titles - the Lyoness Open in June and the Mauritius Open in December.

Frittelli, who now resides in America, will tee off alongside Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal and American Kevin Chappell in Rounds 1 and 2.
