Indian High Commissioner meets Pakistan's NSA; raises concerns over cross-border terrorism

NEW DELHI: India’s High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria paid a courtesy call on Pakistani National Security Advisor Lt Gen (Rtd) Naseer Khan Janjua in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Sources in New Delhi said that envoys “call regularly on dignitaries of the host country,” and that this meeting was scheduled a week earlier. Bisaria “sensitised the Pak NSA on issues of India’s concern, and constructive discussions took place on improving the bilateral relationship,” said one source.

While the Ministry of External Affairs remained tight-lipped over what was discussed, reports from Pakistan however, said that the two side agreed “to explore the possibilities of more cooperation and of improving bilateral relations to ultimately take it towards comprehensive process of dialogue. Pakistani sources also said that the two “discussed matters pertaining to improving the bilateral relations including the recent worsening situation in Kashmir.”

Pakistani reports quoted Janjua as telling Bisaria that “Pakistan is deeply committed to the cause of Kashmir and supports to resolve this issue politically and according to the aspirations of Kashmiri people. Process of dialogue is the only way forward to resolve our disputes. It is by way of peaceful resolution of our disputes which can enable both the countries to belong to the future.”
