Expedition to eradicate polio and illiteracy

Eighteen States, 5 Union Territories and 20,000 km... it took Bengalureans Pavan M.J. and Bhagyashree Sawanth six months to cover these areas on cycle.

The expedition began on October 2, 2017, from Palampur in Himachal Pradesh and will end in Bengaluru on Wednesday. It was facilitated by Rotary Bangalore Orchards and supported by R.I. District 3190 and Jeep of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to spread and promote the eradication of illiteracy and ending polio across the country.

A press release said Mr. Pavan is a mechanical engineer and a national badminton player while Ms. Sawanth is a mountaineer and national cyclist.

The duo visited over 300 government schools, interacted with nearly 60,000 students and the public to talk about the Rotary campaign to end polio, promote hygiene and literacy.
