Accused strangulated her, hit her with object multiple times

A 19-year-old man allegedly murdered his live-in partner at their rented accommodation in north-west Delhi’s Netaji Subhash Place on March 31 evening, the police said on Tuesday.

The accused was arrested on Monday, the police added.

“Brahmpuri resident Imran strangulated his 19-year-old girlfriend from Nepal, and then hit her on head with a piece of furniture over four times,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) A.K. Singla.

Mr. Imran allegedly told the police that his girlfriend was involved with other men and the duo used to fight over the issue, following which he decided to kill her.

Drug addict, thief

Mr. Singla added that Mr. Imran is a drug addict and committed petty thefts like pickpocketing to meet his daily needs.

He allegedly met the victim at a club in Netaji Subhash Place a year ago, the police added.

“They fell in love. Earlier, they lived with their friends at separate rented accommodation but later decided to stay together in Shakurpur village. Both of them had separated from their families,” the officer said.

The accused suspected the woman of having relationships with other men, the police said.

Mr. Imran confronted her over the same several times and their arguments continued.

On March 31 evening, a quarrel broke out between the two over the same issue and in a fit of rage, Mr. Imran strangulated her and then hit her on the head with a heavy object lying nearby.

“Leaving her in a pool of blood, he took all his belongings and fled the spot. A neighbour called the police and a murder case was registered,” Mr. Singla said.

A team received a secret information that Imran would come to Yamuna Vihar bus depot in Bhajanpura on Monday evening after which a trap was laid and he was arrested, the officer added.
