KCR faults Centre on ‘gag order’

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has faulted the Central Government for its decision to cancel accreditation of journalists accused of filing “fake news”.

The Chief Minister said the government should take the responsibility of protecting the freedom of press without violating basic civil rights. There are laws and acts in vogue to deal with those indulging in writing fake and baseless news and claims on cancellation of identification of journalists under the pretext of curbing fake news sends wrong signals to thousands of journalists, he said.
