Market Now: Nifty IT in the red; HCL Tech, Infosys slip nearly 1%

NEW DELHI: IT stocks Oracle Financial Services Software (down 1.77 per cent), HCL Technologies (down 0.84 per cent) and Infosys (down 0.74 per cent) were trading in the lower terrain during the early trade on Wednesday on account of a fresh rise in the rupee against the US dollar.
Rupee edged 4 paise higher to 64.97 against the dollar in early trade on Wednesday on increased selling of the greenback by exporters and banks ahead of Reserve Bank of India's first bi-monthly monetary policy meet for FY19, PTI reported.
Shares of Tech Mahindra (down 0.72 per cent) and Mindtree (down 0.29 per cent) were also in the red.
The Nifty IT index was trading 0.35 per cent down at 12,571.15 around 10:35 am (IST).
However, shares of Tata Elxsi (up 2.38 per cent), Infibeam Incorporation (up 2.24 per cent), KPIT Technologies (up 0.34 per cent), Wipro (up 0.18 per cent) and Tata Consultancy Services (up 0.16 per cent) were trading with gains.
Equity benchmarks were up on the back of sustained buying by DIIs as well as retail investors. Mixed cues from other Asian markets, tracking gains on the Wall Street too underpinned the rise.
The NSE Nifty50 index was up 23 points at 10,268, while the BSE Sensex was up 95 points at 33,465.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 29 were trading in the green, while 21 were in the red.
Tata Motors, Eicher Motors and YES Bank were leading the pack of gainers in the Nifty index.
HPCL, UPL and BPCL were among the top losers in the Nifty pack.
