Teen arrested after stabbing at Winnipeg high school

Winnipeg police responded to a report of an assault at Glenlawn Collegiate on St. Mary’s Road mid-day Wednesday.
Officials said they were notified at around 12 noon.
A teen was sent to hospital after being stabbed. He was treated and released.
Another male teen was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
Police would not say if either the victim or suspect were students at the school, however, Global News has learned both of the boys involved attended the Collegiate.
Several Glenlawn students spoke to Global News reporters, saying it was an altercation between two Grade 11 students.
While none of them actually saw what happened Carson in Grade 12, Anisa and Emily, both in Grade 11, said the incident happened outside in the ‘smoking lobby’ just before lunch while most students were still in class.
They believed one student challenged another about comments made about his girlfriend and the verbal fight got out of hand. They said one student stabbed the other in the abdominal area but the injury didn’t appear to be life-threatening.

The students said the whole thing was very unexpected, but that school staff handled it extremely well.
According to the students, the school was not put into lockdown, but the area involved was blocked off.
Louis Riel School Division said they could not share any information on the advice of police.
